If you have been on social media recently, I am sure you have noticed the rise of quiet luxury that has overtaken the fashion world, with celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Sofia Richie leading the way.
Quiet luxury is nothing new to the elite and wealthy. Over last decade of my career, as a Luxury Stylist, I have always encouraged clients to invest in quality pieces, that are not branded, and that will withstand the test of time.
With the cost of luxury goods being at an all time high, clients are exercising more thought and caution before adding new items to their wardrobe. Clients are investing in items that will last and will not go out of style. With superior fabrics and construction, brands like Celine, The Row, Kiton, Brunello Cucinelli, Loro Piana, Khaite, Toteme, Max Mara and Gabriela Hearst are just a few of the brands that are leading the pack in quiet luxury.
I have noticed a rise on social media of fast fashion brands trying to recreate these timeless traditional looks. It is possible to obtain these timeless looks for less, but it is important to focus on quality over quantity and avoid poor construction. Some entry level luxury brands that focus on quiet luxury are Theory, Frame, La Agence, Rag and Bone, Nili Lotan, Veronica Beard, Derek Lam 10 Crosby, and Proenza Schouler White Label.
Building a quiet luxury wardrobe takes time. You do not need to buy everything at once. High end items cost significantly more. Start with one complete look that you love and build from there. Maybe start with the perfect tailored trouser, high end perfect tee-shirt, and a timeless belt. From there add a blazer or cardigan jacket to the look when you are ready. Neutral with subtle colors are a great way to build your quiet luxury wardrobe. Understated colors and neutrals can be worn more often and mix and match easily. Also, choose solids over prints, which are often more affordable to produce, which allows you as the consumer to get higher quality items.
Lastly it’s ok to have bold luxury in your wardrobe for special occasions or to mix things up. Your clothes do not always have to be understated and low key to be beautiful. It’s important to build a wardrobe that is for you and that makes you feel good.
